DAY 11

Kenosha WI / Michigan City, IN

We walked along Lake Michigan after breakfast and watched Salmon fishermen try their luck.  A rather nice start to a rather tiresome day.  We had not planned to travel very far yet still managed to spend a lot of time in the car, and the time change to EST cut an hour out of our day too.  Roadwork straight through Chicago and all the way to Indiana caused confusion and delay (I listen to too many Thomas the Tank Engine stories!)  The Chicago skyline is most impressive though.

We thought we would find a nice beachside community to stay in along Lake Michigan in Indiana, but that was not to be.  Extensive driving, amongst admittedly beautiful lake-front properties, rendered no sign of the boardwalks and beach towns we had imagined.  It seems all zoned just residential.  The one little “Inn” we did find tucked away welcomed dogs but not children !!

Eventually we cut our losses and headed back to the usual suspect hotels along the freeway and found a Holiday Inn with a pool that takes dogs and children !!

What worked for us : Road tripping

Places that you think would be thriving tourist destinations sometimes are not; hotels you think might take dogs and children might just surprise you !
